Token-2022, WNS and Wen Open Lab: What Wen Built

Token-2022 is Solana's token program with extensions. WNS, the Wen New Standard, uses it to make NFTs light, open and fair to creators. Wen Open Lab turns both into models you can test.

Token-2022 in one minute

A token on Solana is a mint plus accounts. Token-2022 lets the mint carry extra rules — extensions — written into the token itself instead of into every app around it:

WNS: the Wen New Standard

Proposed on January 25, 2024, WNS describes NFTs as Token-2022 mints with metadata and group pointers, plus a transfer hook that enforces creator royalties. The code is open in the Wen Program Library. Read the almanac guides: Token-2022 and WNS and SPL, Token-2022 and WNS explained.

What does WNS stand for? The image story

Wen Open Lab: six models

  1. Receipts and warranty cards — a purchase proof that cannot be resold.
  2. Creator royalties — paid by the token on every sale.
  3. B2B invoices — invoices with rules the token enforces.
  4. A payments bridge — Solana Pay next to card acquiring.
  5. A payment simulator — card fees versus on-chain fees, side by side.
  6. Devnet — repeat everything yourself with free test coins.

Safety rule of the Lab: run models on devnet with a throwaway wallet; never paste a private key anywhere.

Why this matters: the usefulness story

Everything commercial burns out; what lasts is what a token taught and built. For Wen that is three things you can check today: a launch that stress-tested Solana with more than a million wallets, a poem turned into a fractional NFT, and the Wen New Standard (WNS) — an open way to build NFTs on Token-2022. Wen Open Lab turns that standard into free, tested models: receipts and warranty cards, creator royalties, B2B invoices and a payments bridge. That is the story the almanac keeps.
